In April last year Google rolled out their “Penguin” 2.0 update. This update was comprehensive and affected about 3% of all searches on the Internet.

The change means that Google is decreasing rankings for sites that Google believes is violating Google’s existing quality guidelines – they are targeting sites with web spam and the new algorithm changes recognise a further improvement in high quality content.

We will say it again – The Yellow pages is dead. Consumers in the main no longer turn to the book to find businesses.  Whilst Yellow Pages has launched a TV campaign extoling their virtues, statistics clearly show they have passed their use by date. Ironically they now consider themselves as website builders and they even think that people use Yellow pages online. Well they do but not in any number that would drive business.

They missed the boat, just like Kodak did when the Digital camera took all their business. Google is the new worldwide Yellow pages and if you don’t rank with them, then you miss out.

SEO/SEM are now more important than ever to maintain your web presence and to stay as high as you can in the rankings. It will cost you money. Not as much as a good Yellow pages Ad did.

This means ongoing cost and regular content change to your website. If your website is any more than one-year-old, then significant change to the content is due now.

Regular relevant content will certainly help to focus your website in the eyes of Google, after all they have over 90% of the worlds search business.

We are seeing month on month increases in mobile searching and it’s very important that your website is mobile friendly. Mobile searchers are often ready to buy. Now.

Optimisation of images is also important as image searching is increasing on the Internet.

Ongoing SEO/SEM is part of your overall marketing budget
Professional photos and videos increase ranking
