Why can’t I find my Business on the Web?
Whilst every business needs a website its no guarantee that it will deliver sales or boost profits. For your website to work you will have to have search engines deliver you the search results you need. SEO or search engine optimisation, is the art of making sure that search engines know about your business services and they link your services to customers searches.
Without SEO, a website may never deliver any tangible results as customers just don’t know that you exist, there are over 48 billion websites on the web, how will you stand out so that your customers can see you for your products and services?
Here’s our list of the top five ways of why your website cannot be found on the Internet.
1. Old Website If your website is more than three years old, it may be written in a language that is now outdated. It may have used flash images, which are pretty cool, but with modern standards and HTML 5, are now difficult to search. These types of websites appear almost invisible to search engines and must be recoded to new standards.
2. Customers are looking for your services, not you. When customers search on the Internet they generally search for a service and most likely in your area as an example, “hi-fi” in Brisbane. Your store may very well be the largest hi-fi store in Brisbane and have been trading for 100 years, but for the 18-year-old who wants to buy new hi-fi system, doesn’t know you from the next guy. You must make sure that customers can find your services and products via a search on the Internet.
3. Search engine optimisation is part of good design. It’s okay to have a great looking website but if the pages are optimised for searching than Google won’t find your website poorly title pages and lack of content will actually count against your website so it’s important the page content fits around the good design of the site.
4. Backlinks are a critical aspect of your website and if you don’t have them then the search engines cannot find you easily. Search engines index billions and billions of pages every day and every time they find a link to your website they update their search results the more they find the more it can work in your favour for positive searching.
5. Content is King. When was the last time you updated your website? Websites are organic and just like the plants in your garden if you don’t nurture them, they disappear. Search engines work on relevance to deliver the best search results. The only purpose of a search engine is to marry up what customers are searching for with the sites that do this the best. Up-to-date content regularly changed is seen to be positive by search engines. This is all part of the SEO process.
